School Vacation is Eating My Brain

Photo: This is actually from last week. Little boys were trying to figure out how they could launch their matchbox cars through the loop and at the blocks to see if they could know the blocks down. It took a few tries, but they eventually succeeded. Watching them become little engineers is kind of amazing.

There is little to share today. School vacation makes for adventures, for sure, but it also makes for a mushy mommy brain. So little of my mommy things get done, so much of the boys’ little whims get granted. Thank goodness for the moments of respite, sitting in another mother’s kitchen enjoying the company of other children, swapping stories and doing a little gossiping over grilled cheese sandwiches. While many, many of our little preschool community are off to glamorous destinations, the rest of us have a little more elbow room at the grocery store, a little more opportunity to gather in intimate groups and reconnect on a winter’s day.

So that’s what we’ve been doing. Opening our kitchen to friends, hoping into other’s spaces… there is talk of going to the Museum of Science (maybe…) and we went to a local children’s museum today.

One thing that I do like about these vacation mornings is the lazy pace. Little boys have the opportunity to put their heads together and build amazing things. Like this:

Finally the big wooden blocks have found their purpose in this life! Little boys have finally figured out how cool they are!

Being cooped up, though… collaboration only lasts for so long and soon deteriorates into… well… squabbling.

Which is what I’m hearing right now as I type, so… this is going to be a short post.

I’ll leave you with some snippets of a Minor exploring. His brain is more and more like his father’s on a daily basis.

God bless every curator of every Children’s museum everywhere. Seriously. They are not cheap to visit, but they are always so worth it. My boys love them so much.

The Museum of Science tomorrow? The Museum of Fine Arts is free for kids this week? There may be more pictures to go with some Quiet Thoughts on Friday. If my brain doesn’t completely fail between now and then. I’ll do my best to hold it together and come up with a thoughtful post.

Meeting with the color consultant last week. Thanks for the suggestions. Marneymae’s comment gave me particular pause.  Maybe we can find a way to make the bright colors work. Gotta find the perfect intersection of bright and sophisticated without being drab. I’m going to find it! By the way, Marneymae has one of my favorite blogs in the entire web. The photography is beautiful, the blog itself is peaceful and meditative. Go and take a look. You won’t be disappointed.

Happy Wednesday, Dear Reader. Until Friday, take care.
